1. Have A Business Start-up Concept

For Entrepreneurs with a Business Idea:

  • Applying through the Start-up Visa Program offers a pathway for immigrant entrepreneurs with innovative business ideas to establish and grow their ventures in Canada (outside Quebec).
  • To qualify, entrepreneurs need to pitch their start-ups to a designated organization and secure their support. The business idea should have the potential to create jobs for Canadians and compete at a global level.
  • Successful applicants will also need to meet the language requirements and bring sufficient funds to settle in Canada.

2. Want To Support A Business

To support a business through the Start-up Visa Program in Canada, you need to become a designated organization. And for that, you need to be a recommended member of either the

  • Canadian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association or
  • National Angel Capital Organization

Once you meet the membership requirement of one of the above organizations, you can apply through the designated organization application process. As a selected organization, You have the flexibility to create your own method for receiving proposals from immigrant entrepreneurs. Manitoba

The Business Investor Stream allows Manitoba to recruit and nominate qualified business investors and entrepreneurs from around the world who have the intent and ability to start or purchase businesses in Manitoba. The renewed Business Investor Stream will ensure that all business nominees invest in businesses that create jobs for Manitoba and contribute to the Manitoba economy. Purchase a business or become partners in an existing business within the first 24 months of arrival in Canada on a temporary work permit.

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum of three years of full-time work experience in the past five years either as an active business owner or working in a senior management role of a successful business.
  • English proficiency, minimum CLB 5
  • Minimum Canadian High School Certificate equivalent
  • Age between 29 to 49
  • The minimum investment is CAD $250,000 for businesses situated in the Manitoba Capital Region or a Minimum of CAD $150,000 if a business is situated outside of the Manitoba Capital Region.
  • A business research visit allows the applicant to conduct extensive research of their future business investment or proposal. The business research visit must be conducted no more than one year prior to the submission of your EOI
  • Net worth should be a minimum of CAD $500,000

New Brunswick

This category of New Brunswick’s Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP) targets qualified foreign entrepreneurs who are interested in owning and actively managing a business that will contribute to New Brunswick’s economy. The first step in this process is the submission of an EOI to the New Brunswick Department of Post Secondary Education, Training, and Labour.

Once an application is reviewed and assessed based on the eligibility Basic Requirements, an applicant is assigned a score based on various factors. The highest-ranked candidates are invited to submit an application for a provincial nomination under the NBPNP.

Basic Requirements:

  • Age 22 and 55 years
  • Have a minimum of a two-year post-secondary education.
  • Have a minimum level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in English or French.
  • Demonstrate an intention to live and operate a business in New Brunswick.
  • The applicant must assume a day-to-day management role in the business.
  • Provide a business plan, approved by a New Brunswick government official, that will show how the business will benefit New Brunswick.
  • Have a personal net worth of at least CAD $600,000 CAD of which CAD $300,000 must be unaffected by debts or other obligations.
  • Have at least three out of five years of experience in managing and owning a business (of at least 33.3%) or have five years out of five of experience in a senior business management role or more, and be responsible for supervising at least two employees.
  • Want to live permanently in New Brunswick, while owning and managing a local business.
  • Score at least 65 points on New Brunswick’s unique selection grid.

British Columbia

The BC Entrepreneur Program provides an opportunity for qualified individuals and families to move to the Canadian Province of British Columbia and operate their own small businesses. The program is part of the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) and is best suited for experienced business owners and managers who have the financial ability and knowledge to create or improve a Canadian business.

The program’s objective is to stimulate economic growth and create jobs in British Columbia. Immigrant entrepreneurs who are selected to participate in the program are given a two-year work permit. While that permit is in effect, an entrepreneur must actively manage his or her business for at least 18 months. Participants who successfully complete all BC business immigration Basic Requirements will become provincial nominees, making them and their family members eligible for expedited permanent residence in Canada. It is expected, but not required, that provincial nominees will continue to operate their business while living in British Columbia.

To participate in the British Columbia Investor Program, an entrepreneur must be able to invest at least CAD $200,000 in a new business or, in some instances, an existing business that the applicant plans to improve. The business must create at least one new job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. The registrant must live near the business and manage the operation on a daily basis.

Basic Requirements:

  • Have a minimum of a two-year post-secondary education.
  • Have a minimum level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in English or French.
  • Demonstrate an intention to live and operate a business in British Columbia.
  • The applicant must assume a day-to-day management role in the business.
  • Provide a business plan, approved by a British Columbia government official, that will show how the business will benefit British Columbia.
  • Have a personal net worth of at least CAD $600,000 CAD and a minimum investment of CAD $200,000.
  • Have at least three out of five years of experience in managing and owning a business (of at least 33.3%) or have five years out of five of experience in a senior business management role or more, and be responsible for supervising at least two employees.
  • Want to live permanently in British Columbia, while owning and managing a local business.
  • Score at least 60 points on the British Columbia unique selection grid.
